Incremental release features several improvements, new look and feel. - 9/16/04
Leawood , KS ( September 16, 2004) SoftVu LLC released a significant update to its RelayTM messaging platform this week that includes several updates and feature enhancements, a significantly improved email engine, and changes to the overall look and feel of Relay's graphical user interface. This release also marks a strategic change from SoftVu's former release schedule strategy to an incremental release strategy. This release comes on the heels of the release of Relay InviteTM, scheduled for September 30.
"As we develop the Relay integrated architecture, many of the improvements can incrementally add functionality in Relay's existing architecture without impacting the way our applications work right now." said Steve Garver, SoftVu CEO. "We decided that there's no reason to make our current clients wait for a major release to take advantage of the new look and feel, the new features in Relay, or new modules, so long as we're careful that what we add doesn't drastically change what our clients are used to and we're careful about testing prior to release. We're planning additional incremental releases to be completed on a quarterly basis throughout 2005." Plans for the next release, Relay 3.2, include changing the workflow of creating and sending messages and more fully integrating the basic messaging platform with existing and planned Relay modules (such a Relay SurveyTM, Relay InviteTM, and Relay ProposalTM).
One of the more significant changes in the Relay 3.1 is an upgraded email engine. This change is largely transparent to most users, but an important step as SoftVu grows and takes on more clients with heavier messaging demands. Kevin Coutu, the developer heading up the upgrade remarked, "Before, Relay's email capacity was about 10 to 20 thousand messages a day. With the new system we should easily be able to achieve over 1 million a day. The new email engine is also significantly faster and more reliable."
The most visible change in the 3.1 release results from a change in the color scheme and general look and feel throughout the Relay base platform. This release involves almost no change in the way Relay works - all the elements of Relay's familiar user interface are in the same place and work the same way, except that now they are displayed in a clearer visual interface with a new blue color scheme. "The look and feel of the new Relay design integrates with the design of our Relay SurveyTM and Relay InviteTM modules," Stuart Steele, SoftVu's Director of Application Development remarked. "The new design represents the future integration of our solutions under the Relay communications platform umbrella."
Feature enhancements in Relay 3.1 include a new detail view for content items sent in Relay messages and the ability to add up to 18 fields per record in a Broadcast List. Users were previously limited to four pre-set fields. The new fields allow users to collect and store demographic and other user-defined information along with basic contact data for each recipient in a Relay Broadcast List.
